In 1998 the Circus exploded upon the Hudson Valley music scene with their stunning self-produced debut release, "A Good Thief Tips His Hat." The quirky quartet then began touring throughout the northeast, rapidly developing a fiercely loyal, all-ages following. Featured recently in Relix Magazine, The New York Times and on the CBS hit show Joan of Arcadia, the band's charismatic live performances and whimsical blend of folk, rock, hillbilly and pop have simply captivated audiences and critics alike.

The music of Slambovia has been described as "Hillbilly-Floyd, folk-pop," "alt-country roots-rock," and "surreal Americana." Yet as earthy as their music seems, The Circus has a spiritual side -- "Talkin' to the Buddha," "Call to the Mystic," "Living with God," "Flapjacks from the Sky." Dancing freely between existing religious and philosophical mythologies, their music is not only uplifting and empowering but fun, a lot of fun. As Woody Guthrie said: "It's not enough for a song to be good, it must be good for something." Gandalf Murphy and The Slambovian Circus of Dreams's music can "Heal what ails ya!"

Patty Larkin has been redefining the boundaries of folk-urban pop music for 25 years with her inventive guitar wizardry and uncompromising vocals and lyrics. Acoustic Guitar hails her "soundscape experiments" while Rolling Stone praises her "evocative and subtle sonic shading." She has been described as "riveting" (Chicago Tribune), "hypnotic" (Entertainment Weekly) and a "drop-dead brilliant" performer (Performing Songwriter).

In 2010, she celebrates a quarter of a century of music making with 25 --a recording of 25 love songs reworked with voice and guitar and 25 friends along the way. The album's guest artists include Shawn Colvin, Suzanne Vega, Bruce Cockburn, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Jennifer Kimball and others. 25 is the unplugged version of classic Patty Larkin love songs, created with a dream team of some of acoustic music's heroes.

Throughout 2010, Patty will be joined on stage by many of the artists who appear on the album. For our highly anticipated concert it will be Jennifer.

For almost ten years now, Austin, TX native, Rhett Miller has balanced a solo career with a band career, as both the leader of the rock band Old 97's and as an acclaimed singer-songwriter in his own right. Last year, the Old 97's released their seventh album, Blame It On Gravity. Now, just a year later, Miller returns with his fourth solo record, the self-titled Rhett Miller. Like every record that Miller is involved with, it's tuneful, memorable, and smart. Unlike the other records, though, this one cuts deep -- sometimes to the bone. As the title suggests, this album represents Miller's most personal statement in a career that has spanned more than a decade. And that's exactly the way he wants it.

"The reason I have to make solo records is because the nature of the band; when I bring ideas, they get voted down frequently," Miller says. "That's always been the case. The band is a democracy. But I have always told the guys that I want to make solo records."

Although known over the years for his good looks and warm, emotive voice, Miller's central strength is as a songwriter who adroitly couches dark sentiments within upbeat melodies. That means he can work through semi-autobiographical material that's often quite melancholy. He says everything in his life works its way into songs, from family and friends to books he reads (including the work of the late author David Foster Wallace, of whom Miller was an enormous fan). In the end, though, he wants to entertain people more than he wants to bare his soul.

"A lot of the music I really love is depressing," he explains, "so that's what I'm drawn to. But when I play in front of people, I have this really strong desire to make them happy. I can't force people to sit there and listen to sad songs that sound sad. I just can't do it. If I'm going to have a sad lyric, it has to be set to music that's uplifting or fun-sounding."

Anyone who's witnessed a Rhett Miller performance (either solo or as longtime frontman for alt-country darlings Old 97's), can attest to his charisma and boundless energy onstage. October 8th's Outpost show will be no exception.

James Maddock is quietly becoming one of the breakout musical stories of 2010. With the release of the exquisite song cycle Sunrise on Avenue C, Maddock has re-established himself as one of the most respected singer/songwriters on the scene.

Vin Scelsa of WFUV-FM and Sirius/XM puts it this way; "I fell head over heels in love with James Maddock's music around the turn of the century when his band Wood released Songs From Stamford Hill. My heart broke when James seemed to disappear completely from the music scene without a follow-up. From time to time I would search for him on the Internet, to no avail, and play the songs from Wood's only album with a bittersweet ache that matched the mood of the music. Imagine then how thrilled I was to discover at the end of the decade James was living and working right under my nose in New York City, far below the radar, honing his skills, biding his time. Then understand how exhilarated and thoroughly gladdened I became upon hearing his new songs, heartbreakingly beautiful, exquisitely crafted, which pick right up where Stamford Hill left off. James Maddock's talent has a timeless quality he shares with the great songwriters. His music touches the soul. How happy I am to have him back on the radar screen… the world at large needs artists like this."

Vance Gilbert has played the Outpost six times as a solo artist and once in October of 2003 as part of an amazing trio with Jill Sobule and Ellis Paul. This time (rescheduled from February 26th's crippling snow storm) Gilbert, the ex-multicultural arts teacher and jazz singer, returns, bringing with him Dala, the stunning Canadian duo of Sheila Carabine and Amanda Walther, who he met on a tour of Canada in spring of 2009, immediately striking up a friendship.

Vance's most recent album Up On Rockfield explores and unabashedly celebrates the influence that various famous songwriters and performers have had upon his writing. Each song is penned by Gilbert as if he was co-writing with some of his musical heroes. Who else but Gilbert could pull off a concept project such as this to everyone's delight? The disc follows his 2006 album of covers Angels, Castles, Covers and his songwriting watermark, 2005's Unfamiliar Moon.

Sheila and Amanda formed Dala soon after their first meeting in a high school music class, Sheila sitting with her fellow trumpet players and Amanda with bright blue hair, sitting behind Sheila and playing the bass clarinet. In the summer of 2005 these best friends signed a major label deal with Universal Music Canada and their debut album Angels and Thieves was released that same year. With vocal harmonies guaranteed to give you chills, the ladies also make use of their talents on guitar and piano to create their unique brand of acoustic pop. Dala's fun and energetic stage presence has made them a fan favorite at festivals -- witnessed at 2009's Newport Folk Festival where Dala outsold every other group represented in the merch tent. Click here to view "Horses," ( Everyone Is Someone, 2009) from their PBS special "Girls From the North Country". Enjoy!
