ABOUT US
Mission Statement
Outpost in the Burbs is dedicated to building community through music and volunteerism.

We Are Unique
Outpost in the Burbs, located in Montclair, is unique in northern New Jersey. It's a place to enjoy live music on Friday and Saturday nights during the fall, winter and spring, and it's an organization that offers opportunities to serve others in the community. And all of this takes place thanks to our volunteers, about 100 of them.
Since its inception in 1987, the Outpost has produced more than 500 concerts by internationally known folk artists—Judy Collins, Roger McGuinn, Chris Hillman, Richie Havens, J.D. Souther, Dar Williams—and more than 50,000 people have attended. Outpost volunteers have donated more than 35,000 hours of their time through our programs affiliated with Habitat for Humanity, Toys for Tots, Human Needs Food Pantry of Montclair, Toni's Kitchen, MESH, Community Food Bank of N.J., Dress for Success and the food pantry staffed by Outpost volunteers at Christ Episcopal Church in East Orange that feeds some 120 people a month.
A Brief History
In the spring of 1987, a group of young adults, meeting Sunday nights in the library of the First Congregational Church of Montclair, decided to open a coffeehouse as a means of drawing others into their group. The name "Outpost" was selected because it suggests a place that offers hospitality to those exploring the frontiers of their own lives and of society.
For over 35 years, the Outpost has been a place where people have enjoyed great folk music, found new friends and been exposed to personal growth opportunities trough volunteerism and community service.
The Outpost website details both the concert schedule and the activities calendar -- a mix of volunteer opportunities in the area and community-building activities such as hiking, touring and day-trips.
To expand the scope of its Mission, the Outpost became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation in 2001.
Funding
Outpost receives all of its income from sales of concert tickets and promotional items and individual, foundation and corporate donations.

A message from the Outpost Board of Trustees
These are challenging economic times, not just for our patrons, but for Outpost as a non-profit organization as well.
Over the years the Outpost Board has offered our community top-quality music as well as a supportive environment in which to make new friends and positive difference in the world we share. Now we're asking to show your support with a tax-deductable gift to the Outpost. Help us continue to thrive and grow as a community, presenting more great concerts with top-quality artists and expanding community service opportunities and cultural and social activities.
While a check is always welcome at the Outpost, we realize that is not always convenient for many. So, we've made giving even easier! Donating to the Outpost through PayPal is now only a few mouse clicks away.
ABOUT THE VENUE

About our venue: As some of you may know from shows years ago or from more recent ones (i.e. Richie Furay, The Jayhawks), the 750-seat capacity sanctuary in the historic neo-gothic church at the FCC is both visually stunning and acoustically beautiful!

Reserved seating is available at all shows for members or show sponsors. (Go to Memberships & Support page for information on membership and support).
